Residents have the opportunity to rotate at the VA medical center during their PGY 4 and 5 years. This experience allows residents to develop their skills as a general orthopaedic surgeon with graduated autonomy. Cases are seen in clinic and booked for surgery by residents with faculty supervision. Here residents further hone their arthroscopy and arthroplasty skills. Faculty members from the sports medicine, adult reconstruction, and spine departments also have rotating days at the VA, during which they manage more complex cases. Surgical cases for each week are discussed during an indications conference held every Wednesday.
