As the department has grown in size, so has its commitment to basic science and clinical research. Emory residents and staff have been extremely prolific in producing work suitable for publication in academic texts and peer reviewed journals, as well as presentation at regional and national meetings. Relationships with Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and the Yerkes National Primate Research Center have all provided for productive collaboration. Cadavers for anatomic and biomechanical studies can be arranged through Emory's Body Donor Program. Several attendings, most notably within the division of spine surgery, have basic science labs focused on cutting edge research in the arenas of BMP and bone healing, disc disease, and the biomechanics and stability of spine constructs.
